The wrestlers and couple of more than four years gave new meaning to the term "wrestling ring" by getting engaged during Wrestle Mania 33 on Sunday.
Cena, who played Amy Schumer's "Mark Wahlberg ate Mark Wahlberg"-looking love interest in "I have been waiting so long to ask you this," the 39-year-old WWE star told Bella as he pulled out a very large diamond ring he'd somehow been hiding.
She is the only woman to be involved in the promotion's Clockwork Orange House of Fun matches.
James made her World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) main roster debut in October 2005 and was placed in a storyline with Trish Stratus, in which James' gimmick was that of Stratus' biggest fan turned obsessed stalker, an angle which ran over eight months.
"The crowd roared as an emotional Bella accepted the proposal and let Cena slip the ring onto her finger.
A hundred bucks says it was staged (we know how wrestling works), but it was a sweet moment nonetheless.
The 33-year-old Bella, meanwhile, was married to her high school sweetheart at age 20, but had the marriage annulled three years later.
According to Mickie James, who is now married to former TNA Impact Wrestling superstar Nick “Magnus” Aldis, there are no problems from her side of things concerning the John Cena controversy.
As a matter of fact, James said that she was trying to return to the WWE for the last year despite John Cena still being the face of the company.
